This is Taungurung and Wurundjeri country, with the Kinglake Ranges a boundary between the traditional lands of the Taungurung people to the north and Wurundjeri people to the south. We acknowledge and deeply respect the Traditional Owners of this land and their continuing connection to country.
The Cheeky Fox Trail will take you across both Taungurung and Wurundjeri country, starting and finishing in Taungurung country at Cheeky Fox Retreat.
Surrounded by the beautiful Kinglake National Park, the area offers a wide variety of nature-based attractions and activities including walking tracks, impressive waterfalls, tall forests, fern gullies and picnic areas.
At some 600 metres above sea level, Kinglake is about 4 degrees cooler than Melbourne and can have some alpine-like weather, including snow in the winter.
The township of Kinglake features the historic Kinglake Pub, a well-stocked Foodworks supermarket, a full service station and several great cafe and takeaway options, including an award winning bakery in Kinglake West.
There are multiple accommodation options, from camping at The Gums in the Kinglake National Park, motel style rooms at the
Kinglake Pub, a centrally located
B&B and several self-catering style houses available on holiday rental websites (including
Cheeky Fox Retreat!).
